<pre>Android News # 176: Google store and medical equipment on Android

We bring to your attention the 176th issue of our weekly project “Android News”! Today we will talk about the Google store, update smartphones to Android Pie and much more. Below you can read the same news in the traditional text format.

Google store

Under the Google store, most users, above all, understand Google Play. But it is reported that the company is expected to open another very large store.

In the past two years, Google has been expanding its presence in the device market. The expansion of the company's presence in the retail market is also noted. Now the web has a message about the upcoming opening of a retail store in Chicago, according to Ben Schoon on the pages of the resource 9to5google.com.

It is reported that Google plans to open the first flagship store in Chicago area Fulton Market, very near the office of the company in Chicago. In addition, it is noted that Google leases approximately 14 thousand square feet (~ 1,300 square meters) on W. Randolph St.

In this space are several interconnected two-story brick buildings, currently owned by Newcastle. However, neither Newcastle nor Google commented on the report.

It's interesting to note that previously developing the Android OS, Google has not yet had a retail store of this size, although it previously opened retail stores.

Four OnePlus models of the past and Android Pie

Developers from the XDA team, using the open source of the Android 9.0 Pie source code, ported the update for four OnePlus smartphones. Thanks to the work of enthusiasts, the owners of even the newest models will now be able to install the current version of the operating system from Google.

The users of four OnePlus devices of the past years will have access to Android 9.0 Pie.

– OnePlus X (download );
– OnePlus 2 (download);
– OnePlus 3 / 3T (download).

Ported version of Android Pie can be compared with the early beta version. The firmware does not have the highest level of stability and is incapable of ensuring the operation of all functions of the smartphone without exception. For example, on Android P for the above-mentioned smartphones, payment through NFC does not work.

By installing the Android 9.0 Pie port on your smartphone, remember that you do everything at your own peril and risk. You risk not only losing the warranty on your device, but – if you do not have the proper skills – turn it into a brick without the chance to get it out of this state yourself.

Google will add Android support to hearing aids

Android will have native support for auditory apparatus. This follows from the materials of the official Google site for developers. Before implementing the device for the hearing impaired, it was not possible because of the high degree of fragmentation of the operating system.

The first manufacturer whose hearing aids officially work with smartphones on Android will be the Danish company GN Hearing. Google and GN Hearing are already working on the creation of a new sound transmission specification called ASHA, which will appear in the future version of Android.

The ASHA standard will provide the most efficient transmission of sound without interference, and will also allow the connection of compatible hearing aids to smartphones running Android without the need to use an intermediate device and use them as external headsets.

Since Google found it necessary to publicize this information, there is a high probability that support for will appear in Android 9.1. The release of the updated OS should take place some time after the autumn presentation of Google Pixel 3 and Google Pixel 3 XL.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9's autonomy compared to other smartphones

On Tuesday, users posted the first samples of photos from Note 9. The smartphone proved to be worthy – both in the daytime and at night. Now it's time to get acquainted with the indices of device autonomy.

The duration of Note 9's work is of interest. First of all, this is due to the increase in the capacity of the battery: the novelty has received a record for both the 4000 mAh line. The same indicator Note 8 is 3300 mAh

Autonomy was tested by representatives of Phone Arena. Journalists used a script that mimics the use of the device by an ordinary user. The obtained figures were compared with other smartphones.

Note 9 showed an excellent result – the smartphone lasted 8 hours 56 minutes. This is better than the iPhone X, Pixel 2, OnePlus 6, Galaxy S9 +, Note 8 and the usual Galaxy S9. At the same time the novelty has lost to iPhone 8 Plus and Pixel 2 XL. The difference in the duration of work with the latter was just a minute.

It took 109 minutes to fully charge Note 9. The result is average. For example, OnePlus 6 requires only 80 minutes to recover. In this case, Pixel 2 XL requires a whole 43 minutes more.
