Today, researchers are interested in modified silk, which is called the material of the future and are going to revolutionize it in traumatology with its help.
Scientists from the University of Connecticut are developing bondage on the basis of silk threads, which will secure the broken bones securely. Without the need to drill them and put the pins and spokes, which in itself is traumatic. Silk clamps or loops, in addition, gradually decompose and are removed from the body after about a year.
Their colleagues from the University of Perhuda added silkworm caterpillars to the DNA of the protein, which triggers a special chemical reaction. The third area of application is the creation of artificial tendons from a combination of silk and nanocellulose. The first element is responsible for the elasticity, the second for the strength of the structure, so large that such materials can be used in bulletproof vests.
