Any living organism on our planet is subject to the influence of a process such as aging. This is inherent in our nature, but man has always wanted to find the cause of this phenomenon and influence it. The victory over the processes of aging of speech is not yet going on, but the genes that are responsible for these processes seem to have finally been discovered.
As the publication of MedicalXpress reports, experts from Exeter University (Great Britain) are behind the discovery. They managed to identify a group of genes that play a key role in the aging process. As it turned out, they regulate splicing factors. But first let's see what it is.
Splicing, roughly speaking, is the process of “isolating” the nucleotide sequences from the RNA molecule and stitching the sections together. Thus, the RNA molecule is formed. Splicing processes are regulated, in turn, by a number of proteins that form special “signaling pathways” that bind to DNA and are able to activate or deactivate the corresponding genes.
The above described signaling pathways are quite a lot and in the course of research, scientists from the United Kingdom found that blocking certain signaling pathways, namely ERK and AKT, helps to reduce aging cells and rejuvenate cell cultures. These pathways are interrelated with the two corresponding genes: FOX01 and ETV6. And by working on them, you can achieve much slower aging of cells.
At the moment no one claims to create a “medicine for old age”. The research is aimed primarily at combating chronic diseases, oncology and diseases that cause cell death.
