At the exhibition of mobile technologies MWC 2018 users will see not only modern smartphones, but also those things that make these devices so beloved by a wide audience – new technologies. As it was supposed earlier, it was during this important for the exhibition exhibition that the long-awaited release of a new augmented reality platform from the search engine giant ARCore was held, which high-tech connoisseurs already knew a little before. What does this mean for the upcoming Android smartphones and users of these popular devices?

As Vlad reports on the pages of the resource, the ARCore SDK has already become version 1.0. This happened after a long period of testing platform, which continued, as is known to connoisseurs of high technology, since August last year. The final version of the platform means that any developer who builds applications using the augmented reality elements can host their applications for the most popular mobile Android platform on Google Play.

ARCore 1.0 improves the perception of the environment, allowing users to place virtual objects or textures, such as posters, furniture, boxes with toys, books, capacities and much more. An example of such a “superimposition” of virtual reality objects on a picture of the real world is shown in the above image.

Now the considered platform of augmented reality from Google is compatible only with 100 million smartphones under the control of the developing search giant mobile operating system. A total of 13 models are supported: Google's Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL; Samsung Galaxy S8, S8 +, Note 8, S7 and S7 edge; LG V30 and V30 +, Asus Zenfone AR and OnePlus 5.

It is expected that in future ARCore compatibility with the devices of various vendors will be significantly expanded. The number of brands that will support the augmented reality platform under consideration will include Samsung, Huawei, LG, Motorola, ASUS, Xiaomi, Nokia, ZTE, Sony and Vivo.

A lot has been said about the technologies of augmented reality for more than a year. Moreover, Apple even introduced the ARKit toolkit along with its new iPhone. This is a platform that allows developers to access the virtual reality capabilities realized in the iPhone, which makes it possible to “place” the augmented reality objects in the real world, seen, of course, through the camera phone. In more detail, the prospects for the further development of the augmented reality technologies were considered by Preslav Kateliev on the pages of the resource before the announcement of the release of the new platform.

The scope of the augmented reality application can vary from virtual roulette to IKEA virtual furniture the user could see in his room before deciding whether she likes him. In addition, the augmented reality allows for a more realistic placement of stickers and emoji. Thus, augmented reality can be used for both work and entertainment. This makes it more attractive for large companies than another technology – virtual reality.

One of the leaders in the modern technology market – Google – very quickly responded to ARKit from Apple with its own ARCore. The concept is the same – it's a framework that gives developers the opportunity to create augmented reality applications for phones from partners of the Google ARCore project. Since ARCore support implies certain requirements for the products on which this technology will work, Google has developed such requirements for each handset manufacturer who would like to include this framework in their devices.

ARCore technology was already available as an evaluation version for developers, that is – beta versions. It is supported only by some smartphones – for example, among them the first Pixel and Pixel 2, as well as Galaxy S8 and Note 8 from Samsung. As previously mentioned by, with reference to an “unnamed source”, ARCore will be shown to the general public during MWC 2018. This was not just about the announcement, but about the release of a new platform of augmented reality.

This means that in the future the ARCore installation option will be available for more smart phone models, and all applications that developers will create for the augmented reality platform will begin appearing on Google Play.

And the new message has finally been confirmed in reality, meaning that the technology is complementary An impressive development awaits reality. In this context, it is necessary to recall that ARCore was announced in August 2017 and was previously considered. Somewhat later, in December last year, another announcement was made – the complete cessation of the development of the previous virtual reality platform from Google – Project Tango from March 1, 2018.
