“Police” extortionists for Android have become the most common tool among attackers in 2017, experts found the antivirus company ESET. Typically, such software gets to the device through compromised web resources, then blocks it and, under the guise of notifying the special services, requires paying a “penalty” for allegedly illegal actions.
Most often malicious software of this type is distributed through sites with adult movies and other content bordering on the banned at the legislative level. Often, the owners of such resources do not even know what an important role they play in the distribution of malicious applications, and therefore do not take the least action to get rid of them.
Another type of malware for Android, widely spread in 2017, Applications that use the special features of the system. With their help, attackers could get access to the victim's smartphone, as well as its contents, including SMS messages and payment information.
