<pre>It began: third-party Twitter clients lose functionality

Twitter's popular Twitter client – Twitterific – received a scheduled update, narrowing its functionality. The update limits the application's ability to send out push notifications and to display new messages in the tape in real time.

Twitter Notifications

Although the update anticipates the entry into force of the new Twitter rules, the paid Twitterific users will retain the right to receive notifications. Thus, they will be able to continue to use the full list of mobile client functions until August 16.

For those users who are still updated, an automatic update of the tape will be available in the application to replace the live streaming mode. It will happen every two minutes without violating Twitter rules.

Twitter for Apple Watch

Limiting third-party applications to using push notifications completely deprives the sense of the existence of versions for Apple Watch. Realizing this, the developers of Twitterific decided to abandon its further support and removed it from the App Store.

Third-party twitter applications

The changes that have come into effect are a requirement of a new microblogging policy that prohibits third-party applications to duplicate the functionality of the official client. This is due to the intention of Twitter to monetize their own services.
