Two years ago, Lego launched its recycling center, investing $ 165 million in it. From his employees, an ambitious achievement is required – by 2030 the toy manufacturer wants to completely switch to the use of environmentally friendly materials. And do it not to the detriment of yourself and the consumers, of course.

Apparently, the efforts of the Center's engineers were not in vain, because the other day Lego announced the release of a trial batch of products from completely new plastic. This is a solid modification of polyethylene, obtained from ethanol, whose source was the products of sugar cane processing. Material that does not require the extraction of minerals, the work of oil refineries and environmental pollution.

In addition, the new plastic is easy to process into billets for new toys – at the output of Lego gets almost the exact opposite of the old plastic. The company says that neither the strength, nor the durability, nor even the appearance of the product from the new plastic from the old will not be different. Polyethylene is polyethylene, parents can be afraid, except, as before, step on the cube with a bare foot.

A trial lot of toys made of new plastic will be 1-2% of the annual output of Lego products. To promote it in the market, designers designed “green sets” that imitate the vegetation of different regions. They will go on sale this year already.
