A lot of different input devices were invented to control electronic devices. But what if we make our own skin with this device? It sounds fantastic, but a group of scientists from their University of Saarland, within the development of the Multi-Touch Skin sensor, creates just such a product.

The basic principle of operation is similar to the way smartphones are used to us. Multi-Touch Skin consists of 2 conductive layers, “drawn” by sensors as a sheet-sheet in the cell. This allows you to accurately determine the point at which the electric capacity changes as a result of touch. The material itself contains a PET-plastic, on which silver is applied, and polyvinyl chloride acts as a dielectric. But the most interesting thing is that such a sensor is cheap and easy to manufacture and can be made with almost any inkjet printer. Provided that it will be filled with touch ink.

During the creation of prototypes, which you can see in the photo above, scientists created 2 types of working prototype. The first is fixed behind the ear and allows you to control the audio player. Carrying up or down, you can adjust the volume, the forward and reverse movements change tracks, and tap pauses. The same functions are endowed with a second sensor, but it differs only in shape and arrangement on the body. In the future, scientists plan to add the integration of their technology into most desktop and mobile systems to create more ergonomic and user-friendly control devices. This will be done quite simply, since the technology is very similar to the already-already-established management of gestures.
