Samsung Electronics does not exclude the possibility of releasing a smartphone with a notch on the top of the display. It presumably will house a front camera or a set of biometric sensors. This follows from the materials of the company's new patent, found in the database of the World Intellectual Property Organization.
A patent describing a popular design move contains several engineering drawings. On one, the recess under the camera is located in the upper right corner of the screen and is almost invisible, while on the others it was placed in the center by analogy with the notorious Essential Phone.
It is noteworthy that on each drawing there is obviously a physical Home key, minimizing the likelihood of implementing the presented design solutions. However, nothing prevents Samsung from using its own developments in part, adapting for future smartphones only a recess.
The first smartphone with a recess for the front camera was the Essential Phone, produced by Andy Rubin. Despite this, the world community is inclined to consider Apple as the progenitor of this idea, which gave the iPhone X a less elegant, but not an example of a more functional “eyebrow.”
