Samsung released a new type of ultra-strong and flexible OLED screen two months ago, but the news was not advertised until the product was officially tested by Underwriters Laboratories. It cooperates with the US government and uses military protection standards to verify the products. The new screen has passed the tests and will now become a landmark element of the company's future flagship smartphone next year.
The new screen is not so much flexible as the hard one – the company's engineers replaced the reinforced safety glass with innovative plastic that can withstand bending, but returns to its original state. And does not allow damage to the sensor elements under it, so you can bend the entire screen whole. In fact, Samsung has created a very strong competitor to all protective glasses for portable gadgets – their plastic is not inferior to them in anything.
The screen has a diagonal of 6.2 inches, its maximum resolution is 1440×2960 pixels. In the tests, he could withstand a drop from a height of 1.8 m, a temperature difference of 71 ° C and -32 ° C, direct hammering on the display. And, of course, tests for the fold – the new screen is not invulnerable, but at times stronger than the analogues in the market.
Specialists have already dubbed the 2019th “year of flexible screens Samsung.” It is expected that the company will not only equip them with most models of its products, but will transfer the technology further to other types of accessories.
