Samsung Electronics has announced the complete cessation of software support for the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge three years after they appeared on sale. This is stated on the official website of the manufacturer. Henceforth, owners of flagship devices in 2014 will not receive even quarterly security updates.
Earlier it became known that this year Samsung Electronics intends to change to itself, increasing the terms of flagship smartphone update and releasing Android Oreo for Galaxy S6. The updated models also had to include Galaxy S6 Edge, S6 Edge + and Note 5, but at the last minute the vendor changed its plans.
Galaxy S6 Edge + and S6 Active smartphones, in contrast to the standard line models, will continue to receive updates It's time. However, this is not surprising, since the enlarged and protected flagships came out several months later. Their support is likely to cease by the summer of 2018.
