To cope with the rapid population growth, the Singapore administration is forced to invest $ 188 million in the development of underground urban and transport infrastructure. It is expected that by 2030 the population of the metropolis will grow from 5.6 million to almost 7 million people. And so Singapore made a decision – it goes underground

Already today in Singapore there are underground, underground shopping centers, transport tunnels, as well as the 5-lane underground highway Marina Coastal.

Residents of the country have to save on every piece of land. So the construction of an underground storage of ammunition and explosives will free up a site equivalent to 400 football fields. Singapore also has the world's largest underground cooling system.

In 2019, the Government of Singapore plans to name the areas where experimental underground spaces will be located. The project envisages the relocation of engineering networks, the creation of underground reservoirs and the expansion of the network of underground railways.

If the projects are successfully implemented, Singapore will become an example for other large megacities. It is expected that by 2050 the world's population will reach 9.8 billion people and the development of underground infrastructure can become one of the solutions to the problem of overpopulation of urban areas.
