A recent study showed that children who use touch screen gadgets from an early age will have difficulty keeping the writing items in the correct position in the future. Despite the presence of several electronic styluses for tablets and smartphones on the market, in most cases they are either too expensive or only work with top models of tablets. One Hong Kong company hopes to change the situation by releasing the SonarPen – a cheap stylus for drawing, reacting to the force of pressing and working on all generations of the iPad, even without the support of 3d Touch. The connection is via a 3.5 mm audio jack.

SonarPen is a clever pen that fills the gap between cheap rubber styli and expensive Apple Pencil. Gadgets do not require batteries or batteries. To get started, just connect it to the iPhone or iPad via the headphone connector, and in the case of the latest iPhone models, where this connector is missing, the Lightning adapter is used. The recognition of the pressing force is realized by encoding information into an audio signal that is instantly converted by the mobile device into an image on the screen.

The number of possible applications of the SonarPen stylus is directly dependent on application developers. At the moment, SonarPen manufacturers have prepared software for gadgets on iOS. Android-devices did not stay aloof, but at this stage the gadget will work off as a “stupid stylus” without recognizing the pressure. It is reported that the full support for Android will appear in June, when the device goes into free sale.

Two applications on iOS are currently supported. This is ZenBrush 2 and ZoomNotes. But the creators of SonarPen assure that a few more developers are already working on integrating the smart stylus into their products. Taking into account the popularity of crowd-organizing campaign (the necessary amount was not only collected ahead of schedule, but already doubled) it is likely that new applications with SonarPen support will actually appear in the near future.

The low cost of the intelligent handle SonarPen remains its strong point in comparison with other similar products. At the start, it will be only $ 25. In the future, the retail price will increase to $ 30. This is a serious advantage over expensive Apple Pencil, which sell for $ 100 and work only with the iPad Pro. While SonarPen will be able to interact with all gadgets, including old models of tablets and phones. Upon entering the retail market, the final functionality of the gadget may differ from the original idea, but if you have an old iPad and want to turn it into a drawing album for yourself or a growing child, SonarPen will be a good option.

Of course, if the screen of the device does not function properly or is broken – even SonarPen will not help. In such cases, it is recommended to replace the iPhone glass or any other Apple gadget from our partners
