<pre>Sony has released a breakthrough mobile sensor with a resolution of 48 megapixels

Sony introduced the new IMX586 sensor with a 48 megapixel resolution, the highest currently among mobile cameras, which is expected to soon appear on smartphones.

Due to such a high resolution, the pixel size will decrease to 0.8 microns, which usually leads to a decrease in photosensitivity. However, with the help of intellectual technology Quad Bayer, thanks to the merging of neighboring points, it was possible to obtain an effective pixel size of 1.6 microns.

As you know, the larger the pixel size, the better the light-responsiveness in low-light conditions. For comparison, one of the best “taking off” phones – Google Pixel 2 has a camera with a pixel size of 1.4 microns. In reality, this means that Sony has managed to create a sensor that combines immense detail with excellent photosensitivity and low noise. However, to be sure of this, you will have to be patient in anticipation of the appearance of new items on the market.

The compact CMOS sensor has a diagonal of 8 mm, which will allow it to be placed even in the smallest smartphones. Also, the camera will be able to produce photo and video in 4K format at a rate of 90 frames per second. It is expected that smartphones with IMX586 will be on sale next year.
