This brings the bioengineering industry to a new level, when, according to the most optimistic forecasts, we will learn to replicate all internal organs within a decade. And we will be able to create them for humans.
The cultivation of new lungs for pigs began with the creation of a base, for which conventional lungs were taken from the donor, from which all living cells and blood were removed. Just long and thoroughly washed with a mixture of cleaning agent and sugar, until there was only a hard protein skeleton. Then he was placed in a chamber with nutrients and began to plant live cells from the lungs of pigs on the frame, which they were to receive.
In almost ideal conditions, the cells quickly expanded, already in the second week they formed the blood vessels they needed, and by the 30th day new lungs were ready. All four prototypes were transplanted to the mumps, by analogy with transplantation of donor organs. Lungs took root, and observation for two months showed no immune response, because the grown lung tissue actually had its own, “native”. Now on the line for a long-term experiment – you need to study the work of these lungs for several years.
The success of scientists from Texas has cemented faith in the main concept of bioengineering – growing large fragments for transplantation from several cells of the body itself levels the problem of the immune response.
