According to the reviews that appeared immediately after the start of sales, the MacBook Pro based on Intel Core i9 was experiencing serious performance problems with long loads. Tests have shown that the new model is even inferior to its predecessor. Of course, this could not be left without attention. Many users immediately accused the manufacturer of Intel chips – ostensibly in the design of new processors, serious engineering miscalculations were made. At the same time, a wave of negativity hit Apple as well – some argued that such a thin case can not efficiently remove heat, and the cooling system can not cope with such a “hot” chip.

However, everything turned out to be much simpler. According to Apple, the problem was exclusively software. This was caused by the incorrect operation of the algorithm responsible for the VRM module, the voltage regulator. It is this module that receives from sensors full information about the need to reduce the clock frequency. In addition, the values ​​at which the chip should go into “trotting” were incorrect. For example, at a power of 125 watts, the laptop could only work in Turbo Boost mode for about 28 seconds. Changing the value by 100 W, the processor worked stably and did not reset frequencies even under continuous load.

A recent update corrected the incorrect operation of the algorithm. The update is primarily aimed at improving the stability of the processor – accordingly, there is no need to expect any significant increase in performance.
