The largest and oldest museum on both continents, the Museu Nacional in Rio de Janeiro, could not stand the fire of the last fire. The old 200-year-old building burned to the ground along with 20 million invaluable cultural treasures, and what is dug out in ruins can not be restored. And, according to experts, this should not be done – in a direct, but not figurative sense.

In the budget of Brazil there were no funds for the restoration of the museum, they were not enough for fire safety and for operational actions afterwards. The building is so damaged that it collapses by itself for a couple of seasons. There is nothing to repair, save, there is no need to dig in the ashes for the sake of vain hope. The administration can not even say which part of the collection was destroyed – all the work to restore the museum will go in the information space.

In this connection Wikipedia representatives threw a cry all over the world, addressing their users. “Have you ever been to the Brazilian National Museum? Did they take photos? If they have artifacts, please send us copies of the pictures. Let it not be the most successful your photo, it does not matter, we are interested in exhibits. ” The organization accepts any images of burned museum treasures in order to restore in parts as much information about them as possible.
