Windows 7 computers without virus scanners are apparently no longer supplied with security updates.
The reason is a missing entry in the system of the registry which appears newer updates than those from December 2017 from appearing in the update list, according to various tech news site reports.
To find out if your system is affected, take a look at the update history in the control panel.
“If there is an entry with the name of” 2018-01-Monthly Security Quality Rollup for Windows 7 “or newer is missing, action is required.
” The easiest solution is to install a virus scanner such as “Microsoft Security Essentials” or a similar product, according to German tech blog Heise Online.
More experienced users can also edit the system registry themselves. – dpa
